
Dr. George Mwai - BDS, MDS, GBT(TTT) Periodontal surgery and Implantology
Dr. George .K. Mwai is a periodontal surgeon by profession and by passion. He currently serves as the Director of Dental services at MTRH, Chief Dental Specialist, Head of the Periodontics unit and Chairman of Health Records committee MTRH.
In addition, he is an honorary lecturer at University of Nairobi Dental School and one of the founding faculty member of Dental Aptitude College, Nairobi. He holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree (BDS), a Master of Dental Surgery degree (MDS) in Periodontology from The University of Nairobi, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) majoring in Health Leadership Management from The United States International University - Africa. He is also accredited in Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) / Train The Trainer (TTT) course - trained in Nyon, Switzerland at ElectroMedical Systems headquarters by The Swiss Dental Academy.
Dr. Mwai presents at conferences, CMEs, a corporate liaison and is published several scientific publications including International Organization for Dental Research Journal - Australia | Qatar | India | New York | Malaysia and JKDA. He was awarded the coveted International Association of Dental Research Hatton award in the Senior Clinical Research category to represent the IADR East and South African Dental division at the global conference and exhibition in Seoul, Korea. He is also has two other prestigious global awards: a fellow of the Pierre Fouchard Academy - FPFA and a fellow of Academy Dentistry International - FADI
He believes in mutual sharing and passing gems of skills and knowledge. His areas of interest are periodontal plastic surgery, guided tissue regeneration, dental implantology and mentorship. He believes in embracing current evidence based technological advances to improve quality of service and international networks to maintain global standards in practice.
He has participated in drafting Kenya Oral Health policy 2021-2030, Kenya National Oral Health strategy 2021-2025, Infection Prevention Policy, MTRH Health Records Policy, he is a KMPDC examiner and inspector of institutions, took part in MTRH infection prevention guideline formulation, played a role in COVID-19 prevention measures in dental practice nationally, takes part various national stakeholder forums and recently the regional FDI-World Dental Federation workshop in Nairobi on quality water for all. Off the scalpel; among other socio-economic activities, he actively participates in dental charities and outreaches in underserved areas including: The global annual Smile Star charity organization based in the UK; providing free quality dental care in excursions around the world; locally working with the Footprint trust by The Safari collection to offer care to remote and underserved regions in Kenya.He is a budding acoustic guitarist, a music enthusiast, part time vlogger of travel adventures and participates in Environmental conservation efforts including Rhino Charge Kenya - (Team car 16) motorsports. He is also an active footballer in a Kenya National Football League with MTRH Machines FC and plays for the oldest football club in Kenya, Railway Wanderers Football club – Nairobi, established in 1922.
